The End Is Now Here....
Rambling after the '04 Championship...
Little Bastards 100 - Wong's LD's 92
And on the undercard...
Flying Hellfish 117 - Little Red Horse 109
So that's how it ends. I believe there were eleven sighs of relief to see that Jonny picked up his second championship instead of Wong running away with what would have been his third. It was an interesting championship game considering that it was within 1 point going into Monday night with Wong having the guy nobody wants for backyard football, David "Green" Akers, and Jon having McNabb and Westbrook....well, that turned into just McNabb since Philly already had home field sewed up and decided to sit some key guys. Usually a QB vs. a K is a no brainer....of course the top notch QB will outscore a kicker, but in this game, one in which the backup QB was warming up only 4 plays into the game, Akers had the better chance at winning the battle. But, the former McSuck came through for the B's and drove his team to score on the opening drive going 3-3-36 and a TD. Next drive, in comes a 5 foot 3 inch, 120 pound Detmer (I'm not sure which one, they're essentially twins). This was enough to hamstring the Philly offense the rest of the night, ensuring that FG range would never be reached thus holding Akers to the lone XP. Another note...neither of the LB's RBs put on a pair of shoulder pads this past weekend (Freddy Taylor/Bryan Westbrook). I believe that this is the first time ever that a fantasy game was won in our league without getting a single point from the running back position. Plus, Jon still hit 100. Not too shabby.
In the 3rd place battle of the dads, Suomala's boys put up their 117 all on Saturday/Sunday. Going into MNF, Jason needed 25 combined out of Holt and the Philly D....something that is not a stretch considering Torry seems to have those kinds of games all the time, but it wasn't meant to be for Jason, who runs his playoff record to 0-2 while Suomala grabs the 3rd place prize money.
All in all, it was a good year, but we're not done yet. Our last couple orders of business will need to be taken care of. First will be our annual all-pro voting. I will be sending out a ballot by email for that within the next week....as usual, once those are all properly returned, I'll write some checks and get those in the mail for you guys.
Also, once the NFL regular season is over, we will have some Hall of Fame voting to do and I'll get that out to you guys too at some point.
So it was only a short 4 months ago (almost to the day I think) that we all met in the basement for the draft and once again those 120 or so days have passed extremely quickly. This is the point of the column where if I ever win the lottery and have all the free time in the world I would put together a 'one shining moment' type montage looking back on the year, but you'll just have to picture your favorite moments of the year in your mind...you know, like Mike Tice randomly tossing the red flag out on the field or Daunte throwing into triple coverage or, my personal favorite, TO getting horse collared by Roy "D" Williams.
So, it looks like these final Ramblings will be short, but hey, its the Holidays, no need to work too hard.
Need I say more?
