Rambling after Week 11...

Peter: "You with your big words, and your...small, difficult words!"

As Turkey Day approaches I have to say, how about those Patriots?  Amazing.  I still feel like someone is out there with their PS3 controlling this team....but they're only playing on the Rookie level.  Watching Brady and Co. totally kick the living crap out of the Bills on Sunday night was impressive.  Randy Moss actually looks better than he did back in his Minnesota days....and that's saying something considering how absolutely horrible his Oakland time was.  My favorite point of the game was when Coach Belichick, up by about 35, went for the TD on 4th and 1 rather than go with convention and kick the field goal.  I just feel that there is a bit of.....what do you call it Toby?.....yes, tempting fate going on here.  Would it surprise me to see Brady go down in week 17 as they try to go undefeated in a game they don't need to win?  No, not at all.  On the other side, would it surprise me to see them go 19-0 and not have any team the rest of the way come within two touchdowns of them?   No, that wouldn't either.....and that's why I'll watch all their games the rest of the way out - except for any of them that happen to be on the NFL Network.

Speaking of the NFL Network.....I think the NFL is really screwing up on this.  They're getting so greedy that they think all NFL fans are dumb enough to subscribe to, in some cases, another television service just to be able to get another 8 games not available on other sources.  As you might have figured out, I like watching the NFL, but I have zero interest in giving those greedy folks any more of my money just to see a couple more games.  Would I be pissed if the Vikings were good and I couldn't see them if they were on the Network - a little bit, but not enough to pay for it.  The NFL has a very good racket going as it is - why do they think they need to do this?

Some more Peter Griffin humor to get you through the column this week....

Peter: By the way Lois, I got a piercing over there. I'm not going to tell you where but I will give you a hint--it wasn't on my nose or my ear and it was one of my balls.

Um, I'm guessing the left one.

Not to tear down the Romo/TO performance Sunday, but what the crap were the Washington Redskins thinking?  On a couple of plays, they had London Fletcher responsible for Owens down the field.  Yea, a short, pudgy inside LB covering one of the best athletes in the world right now.  That plus the fact that Shawn Springs kept trying to 'jump' on Romo's pump fakes.  Real smart - let's jump the route with no help over the top.  Springs should take his game check and burn it....cause it sure wasn't earned.

As for TO though, he was pretty good.  Too bad for him that Belichick went with the old, 'anything you can do, we can do better....' approach later that day.

Peter: Lois may be worth a million bucks to you, but to me she's worthless.

Actually, Springs' base salary this year is $4.8 million - good work Synder.

Big Thanksgiving coming up in a couple days.  The usual for us - 1pm at 5756 Kehtel Road - turkey, potatoes, grandma, grandpa and some football.  Ben will be headed out to Denver to eat with Joanna and whoever else shows up out there.  That leaves Jonny and I to hold down the end of the table and do sarcastic battle with our elders.  I'm sure we'll handle it....and God willing, there will be no milk drinking contests this year, that was just stupid.

Peter: Lois, When I'm through with them, our kids will be so smart, they'll be able to program their own VCRs without spilling piping hot gravy all over their selves.

Another perfectly applicable quote from Mr.Griffin.  Excellent - and yes, I believe I have attained that level of intelligence.....or at least that level of condiment self restraint.

So what else is going on you ask....Juice and I are headed south in 10 days to run the Vegas 1/2 marathon.  Gonna stay with a friend off the strip and have a rental car to cruise around on a side trip or two.  Chicken Ranch....um, no.  That would probably quadruple the total cost of our trip.

Another odd thing....I still am not a coffee drinker.  I make a big 30 cup pot of it every morning for the office and enjoy the aroma, but have no interest in the taste.....like wet dog and sweaty feet.  Although Letterman has said, "If it weren't for the coffee, I'd have no identifiable personality whatsoever."  So maybe there is something to that stuff....anywho, I do drink a fair amount of cappuccino/hot chocolate type mixes.  This past weekend I found myself killing some time at Barnes and Noble....a peppermint mocha drink with no whipped cream was suggested, so I gave it a try.  Well, you know the jokes about some of those Starbucks orders - "grande white chocolate mocha no foam latte with one and a half espresso shots, nonfat, organic milk and only about half the vanilla syrup you normally use" - I now see where that comes from.  I order a "medium peppermint mocha with no whipped cream".  The guy says, "skim or 2%".  I'm assuming (correctly) there is some sort of milk added, so I go with skim of course.  He then reads my order back to me with the pace of Speedy Gonzalez, "so that's a grande skim pep mocha no whip, right?"  Um....yea.  No doubt though, it was good stuff, and that's my coffeenerdness moment for the Ramblings.

Peter: I saw you in that coffee shop, breaking the fifth commandment. Congress passes these things for a reason, Lois.

On to the B....I.....G.

Smitty again.  Jon thought he had a chance, and then TO caught his 3rd TD.  He still thought he had a small chance and then TO caught #4.  He really had no chance, and then Randy grabbed numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4....and then dropped #5.  I'm going way out on a limb with this one, but I'll have to say that Randy Moss in 2007 is going to be the best 3rd round WR ever taken in our league.  How about Brady?  Well, only Brees, Manning and Palmer went ahead of Tom in our league.....but so did Brandon Jacobs, Cedric Benson and Thomas Jones.  So, nicely done Smith.

Let's review Smith's draft to see just how he got this ridiculous team that is on pace to score 1759 this season - which surprising to me would not be an all time record.  His draft went like this:

K - LJ
1 - Steve Smith
2 - TO
3 - M.Lynch
3 - R.Moss
4 - D.McAllister
5 - Vernon Davis
6 - Romo
7 - E.Manning
8 - Delhomme
9 - Devery Henderson
10 - Vinatieri
11 - Jacksonville
12 - Pittman
13 - David Martin
14 - Kasay
15 - Detroit

Looking back we can all thank Scottie for this.  Moss was taken with Smith's extra 3rd rounder.  Atta boy.  The amazing thing about this is that this team is pretty much been like the Twins starting rotation the past couple years - a couple main guys doing all the work with some help from a rotating bunch of fill ins.  TO, Moss and Romo have done it all.  The RBs have done enough to get by....with the big win this week against the LB's, Smitty should be able to find his way into the playoffs - but nothing is for sure quite yet.  Good luck, bad luck, some luck or no luck.....Smith has had it all.

As for the playoff run....only Ben and Suomala have been eliminated.  Jason is on the edge.  The LB's and Juice continue to keep the Bulldog first place seat warm for Smith.  He should be arriving to take that over before December arrives.

The Husky D is lead by Kinger and with Andre finally back (just in time with Manning sucking it hardcore) should have a good shot at his first playoff experience.  Team Brady (a.k.a. wIZards) have what will likely be their last shot at the division this week and will need to beat Kinger to make that happen.  A loss would all but eliminate the Izzies from making it 2 for 2 in BIG playoff appearances.

Down in the Bison, a tight race is lining up between JC, Mike and Jugs.  Currently JC and Mike are tied up on top with Jugs a game back, but with JC facing Mike and Jugs taking his turn to beat up on the 'Fish, this one will go all the way to the wire.

And finally.....if the playoffs were today

Bulldogs - Little Bastards
Husky - Kinger
Bison - Drunken Sailors
Wildcard - Air JC

But they're not - 3 weeks to go in the regular season and a lot will happen - so have a nice Turkey Day, remember the Thursday games and get your starters for those games set and let Peter's thoughts guide you as tomorrow evening comes....

Peter: I'm not gonna kill those kids. If they die I'll have nothing to watch on Wednesdays ... Other than the fine programs on Fox.

Need I (or Peter) say more?
