Aiming for a Big Bang....That's the Theory anyway...From the healthy, Norton virus protected notebook of your commish. Tuesday November 18th, 2008 7:59 PM Rambling after Weeks 10 and 11... Actually missed a Rambling last week. Many of you may have been concerned that I had done something hasty after the election. No, I'm at least sticking around to see if Stuart steals the Senate seat first. My brothers would probably both agree that the quotes this week are quite fitting for me...once a nerd, always a nerd I guess. (and for those of you who know the show - if the nerd gets Penny, he will be the King). Leonard: We need to widen our circle. Ha....I'm a few short at 199. Well, the proverbial second week of deer camp is in the books. I saw exactly two more deer on the roads on my way out to the woods than the zero I saw in the woods all weekend. It was pretty pathetic. Windy, cold and appropriate barometric conditions kept the deer down and not moving. Very little shooting was heard around the area too - very strange. Also not helping my chances was heading out late on Saturday night. Well, to be exact, Kinger and I headed out shooting some darts and whatnot until closing time. Then headed to the east side for an after bar and then home. I walked in my door and my alarm on my phone went off telling me it was time to get up and go to my parent's for the standard Vegas style breakfast before heading out in the woods. Needless to say, I spent a little bit of time that morning sleeping in the woods. It was a good day. Oh, Raj was just comparing Sheldon to a hygiene product used by women who are
not feeling fresh on a summer's eve. You know, I was thinking the same thing about Childress this weekend. Why didn't AP get the ball more in the second half? Don't get me wrong, I expected us to lose on the road this past weekend, but then they gave me some hope in the first half. I believe he got 6 carries after the break. Anyone? Can anyone help me understand that? The comforting thing is that the Packers and Bears are about as inconsistent as we are. And don't forget the Lions. They have resorted to Daunte. I had to email one of my buddies from Michigan Tech and let him know, in case he forgot, that his team is horrible and that Scott Mitchell may have been a better option than Pepper. And yes, I mean 2008 Scott Mitchell - not even 1998 Mitchell. So, how did it go with Leslie? As for the BIG - I've done some stat analysis tonight. Interesting stuff. What I did was look at the highest scoring players as far as the points that have actually counted. So - it would only be the points from guys that have started that count in these lists. Let's go over each team and their top performers through week 11. Starting off at the bottom (sorry Scottie but it is what it is). The top performers so far for the wIZards have been Wes Welker (147), Reggie Bush (132) and Steve Slaton (127). Slaton is one of the top late round performers this year after being taken in the 11th round. Scottie's big disappointment is obvious this year - his keeper Brady only put up 3 points before the nasty knee injury. Next up is Juice whose top 3 have been his keeper, LT (165), Tony Romo (134) and Brandon Jacobs (134). Those are his top three players and they have performed as such. Although - we all know that this team is a bit on cruise control, but unfortunately cruise control without anyone at the wheel. Thanks to Scottie, a golden toilet is unlikely for Juice, but he may get an honorary one for the effort. "I believe the appropriate metaphor here involves a river of excrement and a Native American water vessel with out any means of propulsion" - Dr. Sheldon Cooper The other 4-7 team is the Nookie. Ben's keeper Addai doesn't make his top 3 after having some injury troubles this year, but Marion Barber is making up the difference (188) and is the 3rd overall scoring player at this point. Matt Cassel has come off the free agent list to contribute (128) and Donald Driver has done more than I'd anticipated (108) with Rodgers tossing at him. Mike's Sailors are up next and my piece of advice is to avoid the eastern coast of Africa. Not cool stuff with Captain Hook and his boys over there taking over oil shipments and the like. Mike has Andre Johnson (180) as his team MVP to this point and the 5th overall scorer in our league so far. Surprising me, Dwayne Bowe (147) leads Steven Jackson (122) as the 2nd place scorer for the Seamen. Sheldon: The papers could have been mailed, mom just wanted you to spy on me,
didn't she? Moving on to the Flying Hellfish. The Bison Division has been quite the pinball game so far. A couple weeks ago, Suomala was in first and now he's down in third. But with our league's top scorer Drew Brees (198) and 5th scorer Roddy White (180) leading the charge, Suomala will challenge for the division title. Oh yea, a guy named Randy Moss (133) is his third scorer. Jonny is another team at 5-6 and has a bookend pair of RBs leading his team with 166 points a piece. Those guys are AP and Portis. Phillip Rivers (140) fills out the top 3. Jonny still has a shot at the wildcard, but even though he's in 2nd place, he is 5 games back of Kinger with not that many weeks to go. Simple math says that won't work. Quote:(on the 4 guys all being dressed in the same costume) The Voluntary Donkeys are sticking the playoff hunt - it would be Jason's first playoff appearance since 2004. An unlikely group of guys is leading the charge with Mo-Jo-Drew (141), Cotchery (129) and Chris Johnson (121) leading. Antonio Gates is a close 4th (120). Yours truly is also pushing towards the chance of a playoff spot which would be my first appearance since way back in 2001. Wow - been a long time. Would be nice to get there and I have our 4th overall scorer Frank Gore (187) along with Brandon Marshall (160) and Reggie Wayne (139) pushing the black and red towards the playoffs. Sheldon: So? How was your date? On to the Little Bastards. Not much for big scores here due to some injuries, but Westbrook (148) still leads this team on their quest. In a way it is a holy grail, but in another way, even better. Tony Gonzalez (137) and TO (122) are the other big guns on this team. The LB's are another team in the group shooting for the wildcard (which can still be one by 7 teams and maybe 9, but I don't feel like looking into all the tiebreakers to see if the 4-7ers have a shot still). Your Fantasy Superior split a couple of games this week with myself. Unfortunately I beat him in the league I didn't need the win and lost in this league, which was a huge win for Jugs. It is an understatement to say that Jugs has been carried by overall #2 Larry Fitzgerald (193) and #8 Thomas Jones (170). How much have they carried him? Well, Baltimore's D (96) is his 3rd overall scorer. Jugs has the current lead in the Bison, but I'm guessing that lead will change hands again before this season ends. Sheldon: This car weighs, let's say,
4,000 pounds. Now add 140 for me, 120 for you ... Finally, on to our two playoff clinching teams. Smitty's Fat Pigeons are making their 4th playoff appearance and first since 2006. Marshawn Lynch (163) and Steve Smith (128) are the leaders with, of all people, Kicker Stephen Gostkowksi (94) being the 3rd scorer on this team. Smith has started a lot of guys this year and has a lot of flexibility in his lineup which will only help down this stretch run. And last, but not least, is Kinger's horrible team (I'm not sure on my exact quote from back in September, but I'm pretty sure it was something to the effect of ripping on his team pretty good). Anywho - Jack will be making his 2nd consecutive playoff appearance with Boldin (172), Jennings (159) and Peyton (154) leading the way. I'm actually remembering something about Jack's WR's not being good. So much for that though. I'll admit it now - this team is ok. As Leonard fantasizes about his future with Penny ... Hey, we are only a few weeks away......IF THE PLAYOFFS WERE TODAY-AY-AY-AY......
Good luck ya'll in week 12 (except for the Mike and the rest of the Bison) And for this week's final word.... Leonard: What are you doing? If you change Need I say more? BIGFFBL senior writer Jeremy Carlson sounds off whenever he feels like it on www.bigffbl.com |
