FIX IT, It Needs To Be FIXED....A Vote for Oscar Roberts is a vote to FIX IT...From the healthy, Norton virus protected notebook of your commish. Tuesday November 4th, 2008 6:11 PM Rambling after Week 9 (and during the 2008 election coverage)... Gotta love SNL and election time. It is 6:13 and the current score is 8-3 with McCain taking Kentucky and Obama grabbing Vermont. I'll keep you updated as the night progresses. Politics is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich, by promising to protect each from the other. ~Oscar Ameringer So yes, the day is finally here. Our televisions and radios can go back to selling advertising to Coke, Chevy and Marlboro Lights. We've been looking forward to watching the coverage on the big screen in HD. (Just what the founding fathers envisioned many score and some odd years ago.) We would all like to vote for the best man but he is never a candidate. ~Frank McKinney "Kin" Hubbard Speaking of the big screen - I remember when we began to work on our basement - the goal was to have it ready for this night. And it is good. CBS, ABC, NBC all in HD with the reds and the blues. It's like football, well, football where the commentators are a bunch of old white guys - which is quite a contrast to the football commentators of course. Democracy: The state of affairs in which you consent to having your pocket picked, and elect the best man to do it. ~Benjamin Lichtenberg There are 35 senate seats up for grabs. My understanding is that 11 of them are hotly contested. One of those being our good old Coleman - Franken - Barkely trio. It looks like in most of the 11 cases, the seats are likely to go Democratic. That would give the D's what is called a filabuster-proof majority. That means no more aloud readings of War and Peace by old guys on the brink of death, at least not for the next couple years in the senate. So Oscar Roberts seems to capture the American people's spirits in the following exchange about the economy. Oscar Rogers: It’s not! These people need
to FIX IT! I’ve been a financial consultant for 16 years, and I’ve never seen it
this out of control! They need to clamp it down and FIX IT! When I wake up
tomorrow morning, it better be FIXED! If you haven't seen that SNL - go to YouTube or Google, look it up and laugh. Repeat as necessary. 6:32 update.....McCain takes West Virginia -- as we all know, the Virginia closest to our hearts. McCain goes up by 2 scores, 13-3. If the World Series runs until election day, the networks will run the first one-half inning and project the winner. ~Lindsey Nelson So the question to ask - where are Presidents Bush, Bush and Clinton at? Do they all get together and have pizza and watch the results shows? I would have to imagine that W is in a way happy to pull out the old baton and get ready to pass it along and ride into the sunset. (note, in the previous statement "pull out the old baton" I meant nothing dirty - I've left it there because looking back that could be a bit funny and as they say, every little bit counts) When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic. - Benjamin Franklin As the voting continues across the country, let's get the yada yada about the BIG in here. Smith and Kinger are both sitting at 8-1 and have comfortable leads in their divisions. Suomala is still holding on the Bison with the tiebreaker over JC who still holds the wildcard spot. We're moving into the second round of divisional games now. Smith will play Jason which should not be much of a matchup - although the horsies have been doing pretty well lately. Kinger gets Nookie in the battle of 15th street, but I see more of an Oberstar like win in the works for Jack in this one. In the tight Bison Division, Jugs and Mike will fight it out to position themselves for a late run at the division title. JC squares off with the Fish with the winner taking over 1st all alone and making a huge step towards the '08 playoffs. This should be the matchup of the week. This past week, week 9, was the lowest scoring week ever in our league. Ever. .....breaking news.....McCain takes South Carolina's and punches it in for two to go up 21-3...... Yes, ever. 988 points is all. 82.3 per team. Sad guys, just sad. Half of us didn't even get to 80. Yuk. Only 2 over 100. The best was only 107. Come on everyone - let's at least try a little. Maybe checking starters? Maybe checking bye weeks (although, we do have those right on the team page). Pretty sad. If we were still in high school, we'd all be running hills with Boyd yelling at us, or maybe with Boyd not paying attention - probably a little of both. The Smiths' have come to visit so there's been a bit of a break in the action - but it is currently 8:22 in the pm with as the expected comback progresses, Obama takes a 175-76 lead. Do you ever get the feeling that the only reason we have elections is to find out if the polls were right? ~Robert Orben The Smiths' have now left due to a lack of popcorn - which does sound good right about now I would have to agree. Either that or ice cream....where are those vendors anyway? About 30 minutes past the closing of the Minnesota polls and I'm anxiously waiting the results of our more local elections and votes. Will Stuart Smalley be our senator? Take yourself back 15 years in your mind and think of that question from that state of mind. Ow. I'm getting a headache. There are always too many Democratic congressmen, too many Republican congressmen, and never enough U.S. congressmen. ~Author Unknown An interesting local vote is whether the Lakeside neighborhood will go "wet". I think this is such an insignificant vote and pretty much picture Lakeside turning into a Proctor-like neighborhood if this passes. That is not necessarily a rip on Proctor, but just a statement to say it would be a neighborhood with bars scattered throughout rather than no bars at all. Personally, I would vote against allowing it since I don't think it hurts to have an area in town where there is less of a chance for drunk drivers or other ills that seem to localize around bars, but I have no vote there and really have no idea what the local sentiment is. Don't vote, it only encourages them. ~Author Unknown Speaking of Proctor - the Rails are headed to state again. Coach Parendo has done quite the job in taking over for Coach Hylla and bringing the team together to move to the state tourney. The most touching part of it is that their quarterfinal game will be played on the field where Coach Hylla played his final game in college - St. Cloud State U. Coach is buried 18 miles from the field and the team plans to make a visit. A fitting tribute indeed. Good luck guys. Hey, we are over halfway there......IF THE PLAYOFFS WERE TODAY-AY-AY-AY......
Good luck ya'll in week 9 (except for the Fishies and the rest of the Bison) Current time 8:51pm, current score (depending upon the source chosen) 200-130. I think it's over. Joe Montana would not be able to pull this one out....not even with Dwight Clark helping. And for this week's final word.... To lodge all power in one party and keep it there is to insure bad government. - Mark Twain Need I say more?
