Happy November....Get that blaze orange ready...From the healthy, Norton virus protected notebook of your commish. Tuesday November 1st, 2005 9:12 PM Rambling after week 8... So deer season is upon us....well almost. It sure doesn't feel like it, at least going by the weather. But ready or not, winter is coming - the way I look at it, each nice day we have is one day closer to April. Tomorrow is the BIGFFBL trade deadline and barring any last second deals, all the big moves have been made. McSuck moving back to JC's camp and Tomlinson moving across the Rolling Greens street from Juice to Smitty were the two big ones. Will they play a big part in this year's playoffs? Only time will tell. Here's what we do know.....Wong's team is solid. Put this in perspective, it's very impressive that Jugs has not scored less than 93 this year, but Wong's team has only scored less than 110 once. That, my friends, is impressive - especially if this truly is Wong's final campaign in leading his team towards the BIGFFBL championship. So to throw a theme in here, let's take ourselves back to two days before tomorrow.....Halloween night. Getting your costume ready for 2006? Here are some early ideas along with the usual random BIG and NFL comments. First off....are you a fan of the Green Bay Packers? I have the perfect costume for you. Attend your 2006 Halloween party in style as all Packer fans should in your own 'Adult Body Bag' costume. I would bet that most fans would choose to wear that costume for a good part of the entire year if the Packers are only able to beat up on the Saints this season. Speaking of the Saints, how about dressing up as an 'Adult Tacky Tourist' for next year. Some of the Saints wouldn't have to dig too far into their closets to find clothing that will work for this costume since they will probably still be tourists 100% of the time a year from now - assuming Red McCombs hasn't gotten them permanently into San Antonio by then. I have a great costume for the Terrell Owens' of the world. It is a 'Kissing Booth' costume. I guess the only addition it would need is a mirror to ensure that T.O. can stare at himself all day and night long - but I will admit that the guy is a fantasy football stud. His long TD against Denver proved just how much of a top end talent this guy is - possibly talent-wise the best WR ever. The perfect costume for you Washington Redskin fans is the 'Adult Pigs in a Blanket' get up. I guess I would just hope that some of those guys you see in the stands in the old videos from RFK would make sure their 'blanket' is large enough to ensure no skin is showing. For those of you who are fans of all professional athletes in general, why not go with the 'One Night Stand' costume. Very fitting for the types of guys who enjoy moonlight cruises on western suburb lakes with friendly entertainment and enjoyable beverages. Last, and definitely not least, for those guys out there who might resemble Fred Smoot, I'd suggest you go with the 'Statue' costume. Actually, if you have a friend, one could dress up in the 'Statue' costume while the other could put on a Steve Smith jersey and run circles around the first. The combination could be called 'October 30th, 2005'. And on to my NFL quick thoughts.... Even though they didn't win, did anyone watching the game doubt McNabb's ability to come back from a 28-7 halftime deficit. Or was that my confidence in Plummer's ability to to blow such a large lead? Either way, I was wrong on both counts - big win for Denver. Tiki Barber is a very good back at making guys miss. Tiki Barber is a very poor back at outrunning anyone in a footrace. Is the Brett Favre show really coming to a close this way? Is the Daunte Culpepper circus really coming to an end this way? I think the Tony Gonzalez show returned for an encore.....but not a long one. When will Steve Smith's deal with the devil expire? Or is he just making up for lost time? Is there a better WR combo in our league than Wong's Steve Smith and Chad Johnson? Is it time for Jugs to go nuts on me cause Holt and Priest are now hurt? Can any of you believe Nookie hit 153 last week? Will any of you believe that he did that with Trent Dilfer as his starting QB? Even more, Ben's #1 QB, RB and WR were both on the bench (Mike Vick, Randy Moss and Julius Jones). Is the apocalypse upon us? Smitty would be in if I said, "If the playoffs were today...." Is Rod Smith going to play forever? If so, is he going to continue to catch 5 balls a week for 80 and a TD? Is Jason on his way to another 7-7 year? Juice's team needs something..... That something might be a time machine to go back and mulligan his FA pickups. Was that a Ricky Williams sighting this past week? Or was it just a hallucination? We gotta love Paul Edinger. After his chip shot miss this week, it makes you wonder how many times out of 100 he makes that 56 yarder the week before. Yea, sink your teeth in on that one while you sit in your deer stand this weekend. Speaking of deer season.....good luck to all of us headed out. Enjoy the time and the weather. Make sure you get your starters in before heading out there.....and if not, I've always got the cell phone within reach. Now let's end with a little humor. A young single man was getting quite annoyed from attending a number of weddings and always getting poked in the ribs and being asked by his elderly friends and relatives, "so, will you be next?". He found an excellent way to get them to stop.....he began to walk up to the same friends and relatives at funerals and while poking their ribs asked, "so, will you be next?". Need I say more?
