Rambling after week 8....
We're past the halfway point of the BIG regular season and once again my teams keep losing, I keep typing. Thanks to Smith for trading LT and Peyton to Juice.
The Vikings have been tugged back towards reality this week as their ever developing nemesis, the New York Football Giants, took them down at the Dome. Old Red decided to hit the locker room after the game and give the boys a little Texas style talkin' to....hopefully it worked and we'll see a rebound smacking of King Cheese Fav-ra.
After watching the game against the G-men, I'll take back my thoughts that we don't need Michael Bennett. Moe still looks good and Randy and Daunte finally got themselves on the same page but Onterrio looked like poo. Someone needs to tell him to open up the eyes and run to the hole, not into the back of either 1) an o-lineman, 2) Jimmy Kleinsasser or 3) all of the above. Bennett takes Moe's 10 yard runs and doubles them. He'll open up Daunte's field and we'll score more than 17 points against a crappy Giants D.
Anyway....my next topic is Sapp. He is by far #1 on the "Players I hate most" list. So now the fat guy who doesn't seem to do much on the field worth talking about (at least while the clock is running) is worried that NFL players are taken advantage of by the league and that nobody knows who they are when they take their helmets off. BULL. Let me say that again. BIG FAT BULL. First, Sapp is an overfed or under exercised fullback. Probably the best fullback this league has ever seen, but his lazy attitude that was developed by the quality character development program that is known as the Miami Hurricanes has allowed him to settle to be a D-tackle that does nothing more than run his mouth these days. Were he not so lazy, he may realize that if he went to the players union and drummed up some support, he could probably change the way the league markets the players and thus fix the so called problem he is complaining about. But he would rather just sit down with "journalist" Michael Irvin (another quality U of Miami product) and complain in that arena. Lazy. Fat. Sapp. Second, last time I checked, celebrities complained about not having enough privacy. So Sapp wants to be more recognized whereever he goes which pretty much contridicts the whole idea about having more privacy. Another well thought out plan by #99. Third, his concern that the league is making lots of money by selling his jersey but he can't go out and market himself. Boo frickin hoo. God forbid you only put $7 or 8 or 9 mill a year into the checking account. How do you get by? Steve Young put it best this week on "Countdown" by saying "This is boring. Millionaire players complaining about Billionaire owners making too much money. Boring." Too bad Mike Irvin had to butt in at that point and stick up for Fat Boy. Sure, I'm gonna side with the guy that was arrested with more coke stocked up than Wong has in his Roth....right. Finally....maybe someone would listen to him if Tampa was winning on a regular basis. Do those of you remember way back when Tampa was a Super Bowl champ? Oh wait, they are the defending champs and here is how their season has gone so far....1) beat McSuck's bad team. 2) lost to All-Star Delhomme's Kitty Kat Offense. 3) beat up on the Vick-less Flock. 4) bye. 5) crapped their pants in the 4th Q to Peyton and the Horsies. 6) beat up on the Fun 'n Gun. 7) smoked by the Niners, the same Niners that lost to the Cardinals...the same Cardinals that lost to the Lions, yep, those Lions. 8) hung on to beat the Tuna. So out of those games they end up 4-3. Not quite a Super Bowl start. Point being, maybe Sapp needs to shut it and just play ball.
Enough on him....
T minus 13 days until Steinbrenner's meltdown
Notice no theme this week....why? Creative juices flow less when you lose 149-112.
How about them Rails. Proctor - Hermantown. Doesn't get any better than that. Unless it's PHS v HHS for the section 7 title on Friday the 31st of October. Six years removed and I hope the football gods (and weather) are in Proctor's favor this coming Friday. GO RAILS.
On to some week 8 NFL game thoughts....
Holy crap....was that Eddie George?
Proof that there are good FA's in FFB Part 1:
Some of the game high receivers this past week: Daniel Graham, Justin Gage and Dante Hall
Proof that there are good FA's in FFB Part 2:
Some of the game high rushers this past week: Kevin Faulk, Shaun Bryson, Rudi Johnson, Arlen Harris, Marcel Shipp and Dominick Davis
Question that no one else has posed....Could it be the Martz system that made Marshall and Warner so good?
Sad point of the week....(and it's not Rod Roddy's passing)....First snowfall in Houghton was October 26th.
MNF thoughts....which will happen first, 1) Arizona will host another MNF game OR 2) Arizona will surpass last night's attendance for a Cardinals game.
I laughed out loud when....David Boston was booed by the "home" crowd last night.
LT2 may be good enough to take that "2" and send it over to Lawrence Taylor. Even though the Dolphins were stacking up the box, Ladanian was very very impressive last night. Imagine what he'd do plugged into the Martz Machine.
Wong Time....
And a few comments…responses
So the baseball season ends with the Marlins winning the World Series as a Wild Card for the 2nd time in seven seasons. Before people write them off as perhaps one of the worst World Champions ever, remember that they had to win three series where they did not have home field advantage, two series where they won at least two games in two of baseball’s oldest stadiums, and one series where they had to come from behind from a 3-1 deficit. I must admit, I did not watch much of the playoffs, but I say that the team that deserved to win did win.The only good thing I'll say about the Marlins is this...they beat the "evil empire". Now if their owner will pry open his wallet and keep the team together to make an Oakland Athletics type run (young pitching based team) I'll give them a little more credit
Now that the Vikings have now lost their first game of the year, I still don’t know how good this team is. I do wonder though if people are going to start jumping off the bandwagon though. I was getting worried about this when I saw that there has been an exponential increase in Viking bars in the DC Metro area and local sports radio talk show hosts are wondering why Steve Spurrier didn’t provide the type of discipline Mike Tice does. People were even starting to wear pencils behind their ears. This madness must stop.I think that Tice has forgotten he put that pencil there. If you think about it, why does a NFL head coach need a pencil during a game? Their playsheets are laminated, they write on either chalk or dry erase boards at halftime and it's not like they are keeping track of the called plays ala the PHS JV QB.
The T-Wolves season starts this week. All I have to say now is I hope I don’t see Mark Madsen dancing anytime soon.Don't worry about it, the T-Wolves, although they have some new faces, will be a solid 5 seed once again in the playoffs. And anyway, if Mad-Dog starts dancing, Spree's contract states he will choke him
On a
Proctor sports note, I have one question, “how can Two Harbors be 5-3 and will I be able to see the Rails in person this year?”TH was 5-3 because the little women up there didn't want to play PHS in the regular season, but karma has a funny way of biting you in the rear and the Agates got to end their season at Egerdahl Memorial.
Ephemeral thought: Can someone tell Warren Sapp to stop using his race for political gain? Last week he accused the NFL as being a bunch of “slave masters” for punishing him for bumping into refs and skipping through the opponent’s side of the field. Then he makes it worst by insinuating that the league wants him to keep quiet because he’s making money as a black man. Oh, please! Comments such as these are divisive and not helpful.Definition of 'ephemeral' = "Lasting for a markedly brief time: 'There remain some truths too ephemeral to be captured in the cold pages of a court transcript'" -- I had no clue what that meant either.
Ephemeral thought II: How many miles can we really go before we have to change the oil in our cars?A valid question. I guess it's until the engine seizes up from lack of maintenance and won't run anymore.
And I would like to finish up with a few expressions in our language that I don’t quite understand.yep
Common Sense – if it was so common, why doesn’t everyone have it?Not everyone is a 'common' height either.
Friendly Fire – is unfriendly fire more painful?Either way, are you hit above or below the belt?
Reality TV – is there really anything real about these shows?Yes, the silicone is 100% real.
Foreseeable Future – how long is that? What about the unforeseeable future? Is that with or without tarot cards?
That’s all for this week…me too...
Need I say more?
