Rambling after week 7...

As the first round of divisional play comes to a close, Smitty's Fat British Pigeons, Wong's LD's and Suomala's Flying Hellfish sit atop their respective divisions.  Your Fantasy Superior would hold the wildcard spot with a handful of the rest of us within a couple of games.  Still a close race all around and with a couple big names getting traded this week, the competition and commentary will be sure to shift up a notch.

So at this point in the year, let's look back at draft night......not so much all the stuff Ben typed while waiting for Wong, nor the projectile tossing by Wong himself, but instead the picks made.  Jugs always likes to take a look at the draft immediately afterwords when its hard to tell who made the good late round pickups.....but at this point of the year, some of those picks should be pretty clear.  So here we go.

Keeper round
- Best pick - Juice: LaDainain Tomlinson.  No question, this guy is going to be the best fantasy football player for the next 3 years barring any injury.  So tell me why Juice felt he was getting value by trading the best keeper available for a 1st round draft pick?  Smitty gets an atta boy.
- Worst pick - Mike: Kevin Jones.  Yea, probably a case of necessity here since Mike didn't have a lot to choose from, but Kevin Jones was a bit of a long shot for a keeper and it could have gone real well, but it didn't (or hasn't yet, depends on how you look at it).

1st round
- Best pick - Rich: Terrell Owens.  Great great pick for Rich.....I honestly thought TO went too high in our draft when Rich took him, but the big guy has exceeded at least my expectations up till this point of the season.
- Worst pick - I can't even single one out here.....well done by all.

2nd round
- Best pick - Jonny: Lamont Jordan.  Nice grab for Jonny to match up with Clinton in the backfield.
- Worst pick - Jason: Roy Williams.  I know there was the whole controversy thing there, but even if Marvin is off the board, this pick is shaky at this point in the draft.

3rd round
- Best pick - Jugs: Reggie Wayne.  11th WR overall seems pretty high for a #2 WR, but considering that it is very likely that Wayne will end up with better numbers than Harrison, this is great value for Jugs.
- Worst pick - Mike: J.J. Arrington.  Sorry to pick on the newly weds RBs, but J.J. has yet to really show up at all.  Another stretch that could have worked out for Mike, but with Dunn, Taylor, T.Jones and Barlow still on the board at this point, not a great pick.

4th round
- Best pick - Tie: Wong/Wong - Steve Smith and Warrick Dunn.  Some in this league have told me that teams are made in the 4th and 5th round in the BIGFFBL.  Well, if that is the case, Wong will be rolling deep into the playoffs.  Steve Smith went WAY too deep and same with Warrick.  Great great great work by our most successful competition.
- Worst pick - Hard to pick one, but I'll rip on myself here a little....Fred Taylor.  I'm looking now and I took Freddie ahead of Thomas Jones.  Probably a coin toss decision at that point, but could have been better the other way around.

5th round
- Best pick - Mike: Jimmy Smith.  A great pick of a veteran who proved the predictors wrong.  Jimmy is still one of the most consistent receivers in the league and has a great on field relationship with his QB.
- Worst pick - Ahh yes, me again.....Aaron Brooks.  Ok, maybe Jonny's pick of Lee Suggs was a bit worse, but since I said out loud that I hated the pick even before I made it, I continue to believe that my pick was the worst of the whole draft, not just this round.

6th round
- Best pick - Smitty: Carson Palmer.  Nice grab by Smitty....Mike gets a honorable mention for taking Larry Johnson with this last pick of this round.
- Worst pick - Again I'll pick on myself....I took a chance with Eric Johnson of the 49ers and he turned into a carbon copy of Todd Heap's season of a year ago (and yea, I had Todd last year).

From here out let's just look at the best picks cause there are way too many picks that didn't pan out...

7th round
 - Jugs: Plaxico Burress.  The 28th WR taken has turned into Eli Mannings top target.

8th round
- JC: Ben Roethlisburger.  Kind of a weak round, but Big Ben has played very well to start out this year.

9th round
 - Jason: Keyshawn Johnson.  The Bledsoe reunion has paid off for the new Michael Irvin down in D.  And as the 40th WR taken, Jason got a very good deal.

10th round
 - Jason: Drew Bledsoe.  Back to back winners for Jason with the Cowboys boys.  The Drew to Key connection has helped the Horse stay in the hunt in the Bulldog division.

11th round
 - JC: Reuben Droughns.  Reuben has quietly been putting up a very nice season for an 11th round pick in our league.  10-15 points per week isn't too shabby for a #4 back.

12th round
 - NONE (lots of D's and TE's)

13th round
 - (see 12th round)

14th round
 - Juice: Ben Troupe.  Troupe, along with Erron Kinney, have turned into big time targets for Steve McNair.  Its no wonder that Frank Wycheck was one of the best producing fantasy TEs for years in that offense.

15th round
 - Wong: Ben Watson.  Watson is taking plenty of catches away from the other New England receivers as Tom Brady regularly goes to the big guy both in short yardage situations and for deep shots down the middle.

16th round
 - Suomala: Tyrone Calico.  Hard to pick a solid final round pick, but Suomala got a nice WR here considering Tyrone was the 47th overall WR selected.

So there you have it.....no humor this week - unless of course you are currently watching the Duluth news which just showed a SUV upside down in Twin Ponds.  Ok, its not really ha ha funny, but I think you know what I mean - and no one was injured.  Proctor football playoffs started tonight - not sure of the final yet, but I have heard that they were winning big over Crosby.  Possible Proctor-Hermantown matchup on Saturday at Egerdahl - it really doesn't get much better than that.  If you're there, I'll see ya there.

Need I say more?
