How 'bout them
Vikings....Or maybe, how bad're them Seahawks?...From the healthy, Norton virus protected notebook of your commish. Tuesday October 24th, 2006 3:58 PM Rambling after Week 7... Week 7 brought - Seneca "don't call me William" Wallace, Leon "don't call me Spinks" Johnson and Tony "sure I like Red Baron" Romo. That along with a couple more steroid suspensions and a huge Vikings win in Seattle (just didn't feel right though - as if the Walrus just gave it to us)....gotta love the NFL. I think Scottie and Jack are starting to see just why this league is great.....when Hines and Alge both catch 3 TDs for Scottie against King, in the same game. The only way it would have been better is to see T.O. grab one more touchdown last night and have Kinger take the win anyway. Without looking it up, I would imagine that the league this year is about as even as it has been in a long time....well, ignoring Team Denny Crane of course. But then again, we all know that Denny is in a league of his own. Juice is in a league of his own.....both on the fantasy football field and on the baseball field - well, at least at the Third Base. So, with the approaching holiday (deer) season approaching, the usual signs are upon us.....Smith and Juice getting wasted at random Carlton County bars, Scottie filling my inbox with pictures of large deer (similar to some of those that I will not be shooting), Jugs talking s**t about how good his team could be, Proctor going into the playoffs undefeated.....ahh yes, November is almost here. How absolutely bad are the FOX announcing crews (except for Troy Aikman and Moose Johnson, who I think are two of the best in the business)? I can't stand listening to the vast majority of them....seriously where do they get these guys? Thankfully, I have a habit of falling asleep during the 2nd quarter of Vikings games this year and save myself from the ulcers I'm likely to get by listening (and watching) Although the downside of those naps are waking up to Taylor running for 95 yards to put the Vikes up big on the road against a good team.....it made me wonder just how long I had been sleeping. We've now made it through the first round of divisional games.....and the only sure thing is that McSuck pisses me off. Here's a short list of the guys on my roster at the end of last year - thus, those available to me as keepers this year; - Donovan McNabb Yea....somehow I've still got my head above water.....and by the way - the Madden jinx does exist. So, let's finish off this column this week with some BIG fun facts.. Starting with the Fat British Pigeons.....since 2000 Smitty leads the league in the least amount of weeks under 70 points with 3. Well, I'm not counting the new guys, but just for the record, Scotty already has 3 himself. So who has had the most weeks under 70 you ask? Mike's 19 weeks lead Suomala's 16 and Jonny's 15. Juice's 848 points through 7 weeks is quite impressive, but is not a record. In fact, it is only the 3rd highest 7 week start since 2000. Back in 2002, Smitty had 891 (127.3) through 7. But, also in 2002, Ben put up 939 (134.1) through the first 7 weeks. That is rediculous. Currently there have been 134,260 points scored in our league's history (1998-present). That's an average of 1,128 per week. By my calculations, we'll hit 1,000,000 by the 4th week of the 2060 season. (scary thought is that there is a pretty good chance of that actually happening). This year the Bulldog Division is scoring 103.5 per week.....the Bison at 99.9 and the Husky at a poor 91.6. In 5 of the last 6 seasons, the Bulldog Division has won the regular season scoring crown - setting a record of 6,044 in 2004 (107.9/game). Welcome to the new guys. Scottie currently has the best career winning percentage while Kinger has the worst ever career winning percentage. Finally.....maybe this will finally be the year
where there is a true battle for the golden toilet. Currently there are,
well, everyone except for Juice in the running for it. I suppose that also
means that everyone is still in the playoff hunt as well. The longer that
lasts....the longer people are allowed to go off the false hope that a 3-4 or
4-3 record provides......at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. BIGFFBL senior writer Jeremy Carlson sounds off whenever he feels like it on www.bigffbl.com |
