Rambling after Week 4...

Topics for this week:
 - Terrell Owens
 - Minnesota Twins
 - Fred Smoot
 - Fox NFL Sunday Pregame
 - Weather
 - Team "Denny Crane" Juice
 - My bitchy little brother
 - My misplacing other little brother

So starting at the top --- Terrell Owens.  Wow, can you imagine the career highlight reel this guy will put up....and just for the stuff that happens before and after the games.  So let's take a vote as to who thinks TO tried to kill himself.....I'm guessing that there'd be about 12 yes votes in our league to that.  All we hear about is how goofy his life is off the field because of his success on it.  Well, either he is really really stupid (quite possible) or he just doesn't care and the people around him are very enabling of that state of mind (very likely).  One good sign of the quality of people around him is his publicist.  Seeing how she presented herself during the interviews last week (one big note - she was chewing gum during the press conference) just shows how well Owens chooses his help.  He might perform well on the field, but I see a Rodman-esque end to this career....ending too early or too strangely for the most of us to comprehend.

How about the Twinkies.  What a finish to the season.  We'd all have lost a lot of coin betting on where the boys would finish this year....and that combined with the rise and fall of Liriano just show how long a single Major League season is.  The division championship seemed to have been a positive in getting home field against the A's rather than going to the Apple, but Zito and Frankie showed up big in game 1 today and put us in a hole.  I have hopes that we'll have a Twins game to watch on Sunday, but if we don't, I think we'll see a championship series without any central division participants....and for the seasons that both the Twins and Tigers had, that would be a shame.

Fred Smoot.  The more I watch that guy, the more I think he's a worse tackler than Deion (and nowhere near as good of a cover man).  I guess that just tells me that if a guy needs to talk about how good he is, he might not be half that good (hmm, like Chad Johnson...but that's another story).  Start watching Smoot try and cover - especially if he's up against Williams this week.  He'll be at least 5 yards too many off the guy, allowing for easy short hitch/out pattern completions.  Then, when he needs to come up and make a tackle, he'll come up and either dive at his feet, or try to dance him down to the ground as if he was Joey Lawrence or Emmitt Smith on Dancing with the Stars.  I get quite pissed watching the guy play - especially when comparing him to Winfield - there really is no comparison if you ask me.

I need to come out and say this....the new Fox NFL Sunday pregame is absolutely horrible.  I mean terrible.  It was tolerable before, but once they took away the referee (J.B.), there was no one left to control the children (Terry, Jimmy and the big moron).  Add the fact that they're trying to be like College Gameday with the stupid broadcasting on site stuff each week, and I have only one interest in turning on FOX between 11 and noon on Sunday.  (and no, it is not to see Bill Maas' preview of whatever crappy game he's 'announcing' that week)  I flop back and forth between JB's current station, CBS, and FOX until I see Frank Caliendo's bit and then go directly to CBS for the rest of the pregame.  Don't get me wrong, I think Shannon Sharpe is about as smart as the bowling pin sitting next to my TV, but I really respect how JB leads a pregame show.  It's kinda like before with JB keeping control over the stupid blonde Bradshaw....I could handle it, but with Joe Buck attempting to rein in Terry - no chance.  Anyway, I'll be curious to see how the ratings hold up for FOX this year and how many execs get axed.

Well, for the weather.  I like the fall, don't get me wrong, but I hate the really nice days like yesterday when you know everyone is thinking that - boy, this is a nice day, I wonder when we'll see a day like this next?  (and the answer is - hmm, April or May - gotta love Duluth).  Anywho - that's how the cookie crumbles I guess.  The perspective to keep in mind I guess is that I have a buddy from college in Florida that emailed me a couple days ago and said that he really misses the seasons we have up here.  I guess the change is what makes it nice....and I am looking forward to doing some snowmobiling in a couple months here....right after deer season.

So if I didn't dedicate a little space here to the BIG's only undefeated team remaining, I suppose I'd get an earful.  Juice is now at 4-0.  He only won 3 last year.  In the words of Tom Skeritt..."Not bad".  Leading Juice this week was McSuck with 39.  That right there damn near outscored Scottie this week.  He has his first division matchup this week against his Junior Landlord - the struggling LB's (similarly, Kinger also plays his landlord - Nookie - in division play this week).  If Juice doesn't win this one, he'll hear about it at least until week 10 when he gets his 2nd shot at the LB's.  The question to ask though is this....did Juice finally find a team name that works for him?  Are the gods of Crane, Poole and Schmidt watching over this team and leading them to an undefeated season?  Cause we all know that Denny Crane never loses.

So for my bitchy little brother - that would be Jon.  Starting out 1-3 and with two of those games potential wins with starting a couple different guys.  This past week - screwed by Westbrook.  The week before - screwed by Westbrook.  He might have the highest potential each week, but Jon's gotta find some consistency to go along with Rudi at the RB position - otherwise he'll be having more weeks where Westbrook being a gametime decision will screw over the LB's.

As for my misplacing brother....that would be Ben.  To keep this in generalities, let's say that someone orders and receives a large, relatively expensive piece of technology for their home and are not charged for it, even 30 days after receiving it.  Earl might say that karma would have a good reason to be out to get him.  Therefore, when someone loses a check of about a similar value as the previously mentioned purchase that he had before getting the piece of technology, it might just be karma essentially kicking him in the nuts to keep everything even.  Or maybe he'll find the check and be back in the land of luck.  Either way, it makes for a good story right now - if you're not Ben that is.

Well, my battery is about to die, so that means time to save this and get it uploaded.

Need I say more?
