Rambling after Week 3...

So the show I'll plug this week in my Ramblings of football, life and TV is Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.  The series premiere a week ago was a little bit slow for me, and I was doubting the show, but last night's second episode was a true Sorkin masterpiece.  For those of you that don't know, Aaron Sorkin is the creator of my all time favorite drama, The West Wing.  He also is putting together Studio 60.  So, for the second week in a row, I'm recommending you watch a television show, Studio 60 is on NBC Mondays at 9:00 central.  (yea I know it is on at the same time as MNF - but honestly, to me, MNF has lost it's appeal with the move to ESPN - especially with shows like Two and a Half Men and How I met your Mother also on Monday nights).  I guess the summary of this paragraph is.....I watch a fair amount of primetime TV.

Anywho...I figured the Ramblings would be pretty easy to put down on paper this week since a lot seemed to happen both in and out of the football world (at least for me).  First off, my birthday came and went without much fanfare.  It was a Thursday, and therefore was a work day with the usual concrete and whatnot going on for me.  That night brought dinner at the folks with Mom, Dad, Ben, Jon and our aging little puppy (I think he's now older than Methuselah).  Pork roast, wild rice and broccoli were on the menu - and also, of course, the usual Johnson's bakery cake (I'm guessing they've now made 27 of the exact same cake for me - well, actually more for my dad since I'm quite sure if the FDA looked hard enough, they'd find a tabacco-like addictive ingredient in the cake.)  There was no drinking that evening - just went home, did some work on the house and caught the premieres of The Office and Grey's Anatomy (hmm...more TV, I sense a pattern).

Now, Friday night was a different story.  Started out having a few drinks at the house while watching yet another installment of Dateline's "To Catch a Predator".  Kinda funny, kinda sad at the same time.  After that (conveniently at about 9 pm) a few of us headed the 1.2 miles down the road to Applebees to make sure they still offered $1 beers (and to make sure Smitty remembered how to consume them).  A friend who happened to be there bought me a shot that tasted like a combination of Wrigley's gum, vodka and mouthwash.  The good part about that was all I had to do to freshen up my breath the rest of the night was burp.  So after that, I headed down to Aces and ended up having a few more and getting home at about 1:45.  It was a good night - and somewhat delayed birthday.

Once again, the next day was a different story.  Saturday morning I was up out of bed at 6:00 to head to work by 7:00.  I managed to shower, grab a glass of O.J. and operate a motor vehicle (with most likely a less than legal blood consistency) to the office.  After the short morning at work, I was home napping by about 11ish to 1ish.  Jon made me get up at that point and get ready for Diana's wedding.  So, uneventfully we travel to the church (well, it was almost eventfull considering if it were not for Smitty's date Melissa, we wouldn't have found the church in time for the wedding).  The ceremony went as it should have - at least for a ceremony that wasn't in a TV show or movie.  (people always ask how the wedding went, and it always went well.  I mentioned once to Denny Sawyer how nothing cool ever happens like the bride running away or some drunk uncle speaking up during the 'I do's' - he responded by saying, maybe it'll happen at your wedding.  Nice thought for you single guys, isn't it.)  The reception was good.....good food, good folks, good music.  Saw some people I see all the time and some I haven't seen in a long time -- but stayed close to the punch bowl and away from the bar.

So what about football this week......well, Proctor wins again.  4-0 puts them a game ahead of Ashland - yes, Ashland.  (what has happened to the good old Sea Range anyway?)  The Vikings totally blow one against Chicago.  The worst of that is that we're guaranteed to lose at Chicago cause, well, they have a home field that is outside on grass.  Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised how the boys played against the Bears (at least for the parts I was awake for).  This week at Buffalo should be a real test.

As for the fantasy wrap up....we're starting to see who will be the teams to deal with.  Jonny is not that team.  He's giving up on Steve Smith really really quick, but he will probably get quite the head start on the rest of the league for next year when he picks up a nice draft pick from someone.  Juice is the only 3-0 team left and considering he had 121 with LT on a bye - well, that's like cheating.  Therefore, I conclude that somehow Juice has been cheating and can discount his 3-0 record.  Using a type of logic somewhat like that, one could say that Jon had a chance with that bridesmaid the other night - or Ben with the flower girl.  Then again, they'll just rip on me back for sitting down the whole time and not dancing....oh well.  So anyway, back to football.

The Madden curse lives.  Dammit.

The Freddy Taylor curse lives....every single year.

Suomala's team is pretty good.  I mean seriously, he won this week by 99.  To quote the one and only Boyd Hanson.  NINETY-NINE FLIPPING POINTS.

Can Jugsie's WR's carry his team once again this year?  It worked last year, but with Shockey's attitude, it'll be a more of a roller coaster ride for the Superior than last year.

Scottie - welcome to the league.  Not it is not always gonna be like week 1 and 2 for ya.

Joey Addai might be good someday, but it says something about you when your coach calls a naked bootleg on the 1 rather than let you pound it in.  Sure the naked boot is nice, but seriously, how bad of a goal line option are you when your coach would rather put Peyton in harm's way rather than hand it to you?

Roy and Andre are good.  The rest of Smitty's team with Larry on a bye was ugly.

Welcome back Fast Willie.  And Jason is over 0.500 now, that must mean a loss is upcoming for him.

Denny Crane.  Donny McNabb.  A match made in, well, the east coast.

Finally....good luck to the LB's in their attempt to purchase Stevie.  (Just make sure Jonny's not screwing with you and making you think someone else is interested in him to up the price.)

Need I say more?
